For example, instead of searching “top corporate law firm London,” a client now asks, “Which firms advise private equity funds on cross-border energy transition deals in Europe?” LLMs reward clarity, specificity, and demonstrable activity. Promotional language without facts does not help and often crowds out what does.
They surface firms that clearly and consistently show what work they do, for whom, in which sectors and jurisdictions, and with what level of complexity. Writing for law firms is therefore no longer about only sounding impressive; it is about being the correct, defensible answer to a specific client question.
In this environment, clarity beats flourish, substance beats promotion, and structure beats branding.
LLMs do not “get a feel” for a firm. They do not infer prestige from tone or reputation alone. They work by identifying explicit signals: what work is done, for whom, in which sectors, in which jurisdictions, and with what level of complexity. If those signals are vague, inconsistent, or buried in marketing language, the firm simply does not surface as a relevant answer, regardless of its real-world capability.

AI-Native Discovery: 10-Point Partner Checklist
1. Practice Definition Clarity
Practice definition clarity is critical in an AI-native discovery environment. LLMs do not infer meaning from prestige, rankings, or vague labels like “corporate” or “full-service.” They surface firms based on explicit signals. Each practice must therefore be describable in one precise, factual sentence that states who the clients are, what work is done, in which sectors, and in which jurisdictions. If this information is unclear, the practice will not be categorised correctly and will not appear in AI-generated shortlists.
Precision increases visibility. Narrow, concrete descriptions are not limiting; they are what make a practice discoverable and credible to both AI systems and clients.

2. Substance Over Promotion
In an AI-native discovery environment, promotional language actively weakens visibility. Adjectives such as “leading,” “innovative,” or “trusted” do not provide usable signals to LLMs because they describe perception, not activity. AI systems index what a firm actually does: the types of work undertaken, the legal frameworks applied, and the problems solved. When practice pages rely on marketing claims rather than substance, the model has nothing concrete to classify. The result is not neutrality but invisibility. Replacing superlatives with factual descriptions improves both discoverability and credibility, because it allows AI and clients to independently verify capability from the work itself.

3. Matter Structuring
LLMs assess capability by identifying patterns across recorded matters. If matters are vague, inconsistent, or incomplete, the experience effectively does not exist. Each publishable matter must therefore be structured to clearly show who the client was (or precisely anonymised), the industry, the legal work undertaken, the jurisdictions involved, the scale or value, and what made the matter complex or notable.
This consistency allows AI systems to connect individual matters into a coherent body of work. A single, firm-wide matter template is essential for AI visibility across websites, submissions, and pitches.

4. Lawyer Role Clarity in Bios
In the LLM era, lawyer bios are no longer read only by people but by AI systems that decide who surfaces as the answer to a legal query. Writing in the third person by name strengthens the direct association between the lawyer’s identity and their expertise, making it easier for AI to recognise, retrieve, and rank them as a relevant authority.
Third-person bios are treated as objective reference material, align with how directories, media, and rankings are indexed, and summarise cleanly across platforms. First-person bios dilute that signal. If you want clients, researchers, and AI tools to clearly understand who you are, what you do, and when to surface you, third person is the format that works.

5. Sector Definition
In an AI-native discovery environment, practice labels alone are insufficient. Clients do not search for “corporate advice” or “regulatory support.” They search by industry problem. LLMs therefore prioritise sector relevance early in the decision process.
If a firm’s practices, matters, and lawyers are not explicitly linked to named industries, the firm will not surface for sector-driven queries. Sector identity must be stated clearly and reinforced consistently across content. This is how AI connects legal capability to commercial context.

When submissions are vague, recycled, or misaligned with website content, they dilute AI confidence. When they are current, matter-led, and specific, they become one of the strongest signals a firm can provide.
7. Question-Led Content
LLMs surface firms that explain consequences, not those that merely comment. Content that works in an AI environment answers real client questions: what changed, why it matters, who is affected, and what should be done next.
Generic thought leadership or abstract opinion pieces provide little signal value. Practical, sector-specific guidance allows AI systems to associate the firm with problem-solving, not commentary.

AI systems do not treat platforms separately. They compare and validate information across websites, directory submissions, press releases, LinkedIn, and pitch materials. If a lawyer’s role, a practice description, or a sector focus changes from one platform to another, confidence drops.
Inconsistency weakens trust signals and reduces visibility. A single source of truth is essential. Alignment is not cosmetic; it is foundational to AI credibility.
9. Content and Data Maintenance
AI rewards freshness and accuracy. Outdated matters, stale sector references, and inaccurate lawyer roles signal inactivity or irrelevance. Static content does not quietly sit in the background; it actively weakens discoverability. Firms must treat content as living data.
Regular review cycles for bios, matters, and practice descriptions are not optional. They are required to maintain relevance in AI-mediated search.
10. Strategic Mindset
The defining shift in the LLM era is mental, not technical. The old question was, “Do we look impressive?” The new question is, “Are we the correct answer to this client’s problem today?” AI does not reward prestige in isolation. It rewards clarity, relevance, and specificity.
Every piece of content should be tested against a single standard: if a client asked this question into an AI system right now, would our firm surface as the answer, and would the reason be obvious?
