Adina Grossman, head of our submissions department, and Lee Saunders, Chief editor and head of English content, held a webinar on Tuesday for Polish legal marketers and lawyers with respect to the upcoming June 17th Chambers submissions titled: Chambers Submissions Webinar – Best Pracitces and Insider Tips.

We wanted to summarize some of the key points to have in mind when you are preparing the submission. It is not a legal paper and the researchers are not all lawyers. Here are some reminders to keep in mind.

With the current pandemic, the internal pressure to generate revenue has only grown. As GCs too demand maximum value, visibility is all the more important. Visibility on LinkedIn, social media, networking events – and the major international legal directories.

The London-based global veterans, such as Chambers and Partners, Legal 500 and IFLR1000 have been leading actors on the directory stage since the mid-1980s, and have expanded dramatically over the past decade, introducing a raft of jurisdiction-based and practice area guides, as well as GC seminars and awards. Today, joined by others, they remain the go-to guides for GCs.

Don’t forget to tell clients that they will be contacted by email/phone by a researcher. Explain to them the purpose of the call and that quotes will not be attributed. Choose up to 20 referees (there is a limit).

Choose key categories where you know you will manage at least 15 out of the 20 matters requested.

Stick to the requirements of the directory. We have to show what we need to show but we must meet their timeframes and keep it free of too much legal jargon.

Highlight what is important, complex and innovative. Explain to the researcher why this is the case and what your client was trying to achieve. Keep it short and down to 2 paragraphs.

It is important to let the researcher know which other top law firms were involved in the deal. Benchmarking is important to them and allows them to compare.

Spread the work highlights among the lead partners in the practice area. Strength in depth is a major factor in why firms improve in the rankings or enter the rankings.
